Artist Statement:
I am an assemblage artist, props artisan, carpenter and world traveler.
Assemblage artwork has become my favorite mode of storytelling. I fabricate plus collect objects then arrange them in themed assemblage boxes to create sentimental memorials. I have always been sentimental about places, their history, the human condition, its adversities and subsequent triumphs. Objects become, in effect, vicarious representations of people and places and thus represent their energy.
I have traveled to 33 countries. My journeys help create themes in my work such as my assemblages entitled Apartheid, Hiroshima and Auschwitz. As I mature as a person and as an artist, my assemblages give me a way to appreciate and reflect upon our fleeting existence.
I am mainly a self-taught artisan. At an early age I developed a passion for art by documenting different cultures via photography, journal writing and memento collecting. I honed my building skills in theatrical props and set construction internships and worked my way up to being a props master Off Broadway in New York. I now live in Seattle and am a fly-in technician for Cirque du Soleil working in any department they need me (props, carpentry, wardrobe, inventory). I am signed to Strychnin Gallery in Berlin/London/New York and exhibit my work throughout Europe and the United States.
